Power continues to play truant in Okhla

Power continues to play truant in Okhla. The situation of electricity in Okhla and some parts of Delhi is not so good. In Okhla many residents have expressed their dismay over intermittent outages in their locality on the social media. Residents in Shaheen Bagh, Zakir Nagar and other localities have been complaining that with long hour power cuts they have been left to sweat in the blistering heat.

Moreover, residents who don’t have inverter are the worst hit. “This year has been really tough due to irregular power cut. As I don’t have inverter in my rented house, my family is sweating in this blistering heat. We don’t know how to beat the heat this time around,” said Salma, a resident of Jamia Nagar. With summer peak demand on the rise, there are fears that things might worsen in the locality in coming days.

The Delhi Government has given instructions to the discoms to address the issue on priority basis or be ready to face the music. All told many residents are now receiving SMS messages informing them about power cuts. But they said this is not enough and there is complete failure of the agencies to address summer peak demand. “Just think about the situation here. If such is the situation here then what about other deprived localities,” said another resident Naseem Ur Rahman.

Shaeen Bagh resident Ziaul Haque said the power situation has not improved yet. “Three hours of power cut is normal in my locality.”
