Permanent Tricolour at DU makes news but not Jamia’s

It was two months ago when at a meeting headed by Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani all central university chancellors were given orders to install the national flag “prominently and proudly” on their campuses.

tricolour flag, jamia, delhi universityDelhi University is getting ready to implement that order soon during its Foundation Day that is on May 1.

Jamia Millia Islamia has already done it months back. “We used to hoist the flag on a pole near the university auditorium on Independence Day. After the resolution was adopted, it has been on display there permanently,” V-C Talat Ahmed told IE.

What is surprising that DU’s flag hosting that is yet to be made has made news but not Jamia’s that has been proudly and permanently put the Tricolour flag on the campus in front of Dr Ansari Auditorium. Is the media bias?

“It is not about being bias. I think so that the media must have missed it. Jamia has been hoisting the flag for long but the media didn’t give it coverage, which is not right. It should have highlighted it the most that too at a time when a section of people have been challenging patriotism of minorities,’ said an alumnus on the condition of anonymity.
