No respite from perennial traffic snarls Okhla

Whether it is election time or normal days there is no respite for Okhla residents from perennial traffic snarls. Moreover, with each passing day the situation is getting from bad to worst.

Many resident attribute traffic gridlock even during non-rush hours to lack of traffic sense among the commuters. At about 3 pm there was a traffic jam that started from Tikona Park and extended up to Okhla Head up to the Jamia Nagar police station.

Some residents in a hurry to reach their destinations were seen taking wrong routes further complicating the situation, said a commuter.

With roads being encroached by eateries, workshops and vehicles, traffic jams have become a normal thing in the locality.

“Something needs to be done to address the situation. The best thing is to install traffic signals at several places that are known for regular traffic snarls in the locality. Also, buses should not be allowed to enter Okhla Head. The best thing is that traffic should be made one side at Tikona Park,” said Javed Iqbal Khan.

A few years ago the route was made one-way for days. But things were changed as residents living in Noor Nagar, Johri Farm had complained of hardship to reach their homes. Following pressure from some residents, the route was opened.
