Congress youth leader Parvez Alam Khan of Okhla has waged a war against fake profiles on the social media.
He has alleged that many fake profiles are being used to silence critics on the social media. Moreover, Parvez even has complained against such fake profiles to the authorities, seeking action and closure of their accounts.
To reach to more people, he has even launched campaign on the social media drumming up support for his cause against alleged fake profiles in the locality. He has claimed that one such profile threatened him online.
Though he has shared the papers with OKHLATIMES, the portal could not independently verify the details nor could speak with the people who have been accused in the complaint letter submitted to the cyber cell.
The issue of fake profiles is not new.
Many reports have surfaced pointed out that how political parties and certain groups have been using the social media to drum up support. Moreover, many digital companies too have been found getting involved in using fake profiles to improve ranking and making certain issue viral on the social media.
In Okhla too there is very small group that during elections get active on the social media and try to manipulate local leaders by convincing them that it has a huge following whereas many of its profiles are fake.
