Cover all open drains immediately: MP Maheish Girri

BJP’s National Secretary and East Delhi Member of Parliament considers open drains as a serious issue. He said the PWD should cover all drains and Delhi Jal Board should reorganise all sewers. Otherwise for any loss of life PWD officials and Delhi Government will be responsible.

The MP, Maheish Girri, stated that due to negligence of PWD, a man named Anil Agarwal drowned into deep drain at Mayur Vihar phase- 3 and died. This is not a single case, but virtually on daily basis these kinds of incidents keep happening. The MP said that there are hundreds of drains, these are either open or have broken slabs. During monsoons, dirty water overflows in these drains.

The MP stated that PWD is not taking its work and accountability seriously. Delhi Government is not at all worried about these issues. The head of Delhi Government is not interested in delivering work but only believes in unnecessary talk and giving empty promises. He is not at all serious in addressing public interest. On one hand, there is monsoon season and on the other till now cleaning of drains are not yet completed.

The Member of Parliament said he had written letters on this issue to Delhi’s Lt Governor and Chief Secretary and also to higher officials of PWD. Through these letters, he demanded immediate redressal of this issue. He said in East Delhi, there is urgent need to initiate work to cover open drains.
