One-way traffic has ruined business: Okhla Head traders

Since traffic in Jamia Nagar has been turned one-way to decongest the locality, the move has got mixed reactions with some lamenting that it has rather made things difficult for people and some praising the move.

All told, a few businessmen at Okhla Head lamented that since the traffic has been made one-way the business has been hit hard. “We are feeling the heat. When it was not one-way then people used to visit but now the business is down. Many local traders have approached the local authorities to get things addressed. We will continue to mount pressure to lift the one-way so that our business is back,” said Naved Ansari, who runs a gift shop at Okhla Head.

Some residents complained that one-way is not the solution and rather than barricading the whole area with divider, traffic signals should be put at different points and traffic police should be there to man the traffic. This approach is short-cut and as one can easily spot people going wrong side creating more nuisance and traffic jam in the locality, said a resident. However, there are many who have appreciated the move and said it should have been implemented way back.

It is important to point out here that the arrangements are temporary.

  1. Most stupid road planning…. earlier we were using tikona park road to avoid congestion at batla house stop….but unthoughtful and unrealistic plamning forcing everyone to stuck in congestion of batla house stop. Personally i am taking long way through okhla tank to reach my home.
