People no longer care: Okhlaiites accept lack of civic amenities as fait accompli

Jamia Nagar is in bad shape. Potholes, waterlogging, blocked sewer and garbage dumped on roadside are something common for residents of this Muslim-dominated areas and it appears that know many residents have accepted this as fait accompli least bothered to complain.

For days the Okhla Head-Tikona Park road is in pathetic state with wterlogging on the road even when it doesn’t rain. Despite being in Okhla, the impact of Shawchch Bharat campaign is still to trickle into this locality, said residents, adding that they don’t know what to do with many now doing little.

From time to time residents do put photos on the social media. The situation of Okhla has been like this for the last many years and there has been no improvement in basic amenities in the locality, said another resident on the condition of anonymity. Interestingly, everybody complains about the bad roads, waterlogging and other issues but residents are unwilling to speak with the local media.

An activist, who is also interested in contesting election, declined to comment on the conditions of the road and said please don’t take my comments.

When asked to comment on the condition of the Okhla Head-Tikona Park road, a shopkeeper who has been battling the situation for days didn’t comment on the issue and said things might improve in coming days. People no longer cares and business goes on as usual.
