‘Fun’ dip turns fatal for Okhla teen Anas.
A 14-year-old student drowned in muddied water overflowing under the bridge that joins Jasola from Abul Fazal Enclave on Sunday.
It is understood that the boy with some of his friends had gone to beat the sweltering heat by taking dip in the water that has become muddied and dirty.
However, the journey for 14-year-old Mohammad Anas, whose family resides in a jhuggi at Okhla VIhar, turned fatal. After getting out of the house in the afternoon, the four friends, including Anas, stepped into the muddied water to swim.
The nallah has lot of mud and the water is dirty. And as the boys were taking a dip they saw Anas unable to swim, taking in dirty water. They found him drowning and started shouting for help and sought help from people from the jhuggi.
However, by the time rescuers reached there it was late for Anas who anyhow was pulled out and rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
This is not the only incident as residents still remember last year incident in which three boys had been drowned while swimming in Okhla.
Years ago, residents still remember that during summer, youngsters used to dive from the old bridge into the water flowing at Okhla Head. But with water over a period of time getting muddier and dirty, now it has become a rare thing.
