Okhla resident Md Tajuddin is a businessman by profession and a humanist. He has won plaudits for serving people stranded on roadsides. Whenever he travels on scooty or car, he carries with him petrol in a bottle that he offers to people who run short of fuel during their journey.
“It was a few days ago when I saw two men standing at Holy Family Hospital with their cars. I stopped and asked the reasons. It was then that they told me that they have run short of petrol. I offered a bottle of petrol from my scooty. They were delighted and thanked me. When they asked me how much they need to pay, I told them it is for free. For a while they were surprised and started insisting on money. To which I asked them to just raise Hindu-Muslim brotherhood slogan and go. They did so and left from the spot,” he said.
When asked how the idea came to him, he said: “Years ago I was coming from Bihar and got stuck in the middle of the road at night as I was short on petrol. I was really worries as I was with my family. We waived hands at many passing vehicles but nobody stopped. It was then that a man stopped his car on the other side and my brother went to him. He took him to the nearest petrol station that was behind and then brought the petrol and we reached our destination. From that day onwards, I decided to carry bottle of petrol with me to offer people.”
