What is wrong with this signboard? As you reach Okla Head, you can find a signboard on the road. A closer look on the signboard shows detailed information about the locality is mentioned.
Welcoming the move some residents said had the name of the area been mentioned in Urdu it would have been helpful as majority of the people in the locality know the language.
In the whole area many government signboards don’t have things written in Urdu, said a resident adding that this only shows that officials and politicians don’t care about the language that is dying. During election time also one can find most of the posters and banners not written in Urdu.
Besides, the posters put by many political aspirants are rarely published in Urdu.
Unfortunately, many signage boards in and around Delhi do have name of area written in Urdu.
It is important to mention here how a few years ago OKHLATIMES had launched a campaign to get Jamia’s founder name corrected on a signage put at Julaina. The portal had launched an online petition and after supports from Jamia fraternity the signage was corrected. But later on residents pointed out that the name in Urdu needs correction with minor mistake, which for months continue to be like that.
