OT IMPACT: After several dengue deaths in Okhla, BJP-ruled SDMC wakes up; launches massive cleanliness drive.
After several deaths in Okhla due to dengue that have been timely reported by OKHLATIMES, the BJP-ruled South District Municipal Corporation (SDMC) woke up from its deep slumber on Friday when hundreds of its staff landed in the locality at 8 am to launch unprecedented cleanliness drive.
“It was at about 8 am today when senior officials of SDMC landed in the locality to launch a massive cleanliness drive. They are going to carry the drive for one week. It is good that at least they have begun work, but it is too late. The RWA has been submitting letters to the authorities since July asking them to start cleanliness drive.
Till now we have sent 20 letters to them. Had the move been taken earlier, many lives would have been saved,” said activist Anwar Siddique, who has been following the development for months.
The activist told OKHLATIMES that KJ Lamba and Krishan Lal from sanitation department had arrived. Moreover, he also said: “It was on July that staff from the malaria department had visited the locality and challaned several people over mosquito breeding. They had acted on our complaints. But after days they had vanished.”
The drive was carried today also.
