Colonel Nizamuddin is 116 years old and was aide of Subhas Chandra Bose. He is being touted as the oldest living man on the planet. However, officials’ confirmation is awaited.
Okhla resident Shafique Ul Hasan met him in Azamgarh and posted his photo on the social media.
“He fought for the country’s freedom in Singapore and Burma (now Myanmar), as a soldier in Netaji’s Indian National Army (INA), before returning to his native Azamgarh from Rangoon in 1969. He also worked as Bose’s driver and bodyguard and saved Netaji by taking bullets on him. Meeting Nizamuddin in Anjaanshaheed, Azamgarh recently, was a proud moment for me, to cherish for life,” he wrote.
Recently the files of Netaji were declassified by the PMO. While releasing the digital copies of 100 files related to Subhash Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary, PM Modi tweeted: “Today is a special day for all Indians. Declassification of Netaji files starts today. Will go to National Archives myself for the same.”
