Okhla parents, small children feel exam heat

It is exam time and it is the period of the time when parents, along with their children as young has 7 years old, feel the heat. The pressure is too much on parents as they make sure to monitor work of their small children so that s/he passes with flying colours.

“I am under extreme pressure and make sure to monitor my son work so that he gets good marks. For the last three days the school was closed for exam preparation and I have been after my small son to make sure that his preparation is topnotch for the exams. At times I feel that I being unjust to my child, but I can’t do anything as they too are under huge pressure to perform and get good numbers. Jus see for the last three days I have not allowed my son to go out to play with my friends. TVs are closed so that he concentrates on his studies,” said Ishrat Sultana.

Ishrat is not the only mom in Okhla who is worried d at a time when the area is in the grip of exam fever with the students preparing for their final exams.

Another resident, who too guides her child, said: “It is hard time for parents as well as children. Both are under stress. There are peers pressure too which we never faced during our school time. Most of the students are connected on WhatsApp and children performances are talked about. So I too have been after my child to make sure that she improves her performance.”

Psychiatrist Jayanta Das said: “People often come accompanied by their kids and complain that the latter are finding it difficult to concentrate. But parents, too, are equally tensed, and this makes the child further stressed out.”

The problem is further aggravated as it has been noticed that most parents have high expectations from their children, putting extra pressure on them that at times they find hard to handle.
