Okhla Muslims greet kanwar processions with refreshments

Okhla Muslims greet kanwar processions with refreshments. A movement started by two alumni of Jamia Millia Islamia, residents of Okhla, today greeted kanwar processions with refreshment and offered them frooti at Kalka Ji temple.

kanwarias greeted in okhlaShoudertoshoulder movement was started by Asad Hiader Zaidi and Mazin Khan two Jamia alumni a few months ago and over time it has grown in popularity among Muslims and non-Muslims as well.

“#‎ShoulderToShoulder‬ is a “universal brotherhood movement” started with the idea of uniting like minded people across all religions together. We essentially believe people are good at heart, they just need a positive narrative to identify with. A few members of the ShoulderToShoulder team (Muslims plus non-Muslims) took part in today’s drive where we distributed frooti to Kanwars at Kalkaji Mandir,” wrote the admin of the page.

Zaidi told OKHLATIMES that the team members offer frooti to kanwars.

Besides, another report surfaced from Bareilly where Muslims welcomed a group of 34 kanwariyas with fruits and refreshment, highlighting communal harmony at a time when relations between the two communities are being talked about in the media.

In Okhla special preparations have been made for the kanwars at Kalindi Kunj in front of the Okhla Bird Sanctuary gate. And police deployment is heavy to make sure that kanwars have no problem while they are on their way to perform religious duties.
