It was on Wednesday when a few AAP workers sat on indefinite hunger strike in Batla House, demanding release of Okhla AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan who was arrested from his house on July 24 after a Jasola-based woman resident alleged that she was threatened at the MLA’s house an allegation that the MLA has rubbished.
After being in three-day police remand, the MLA was sent to 14-day judicial custody in Tihar Jail on the ground that he might influence witnesses and hamper investigation, if released.
Today while hearing his bail plea the court gave him bail and the news was celebrate by his supporters in Okhla, including those who were on indefinite hunger strike, said sources, adding that now they are waiting for their leader to come and break their hunger strike.
AAP Okhla media cell in-charge Saeed Ahmed said: “Some AAP workers have gone to Tihar Jial to receive the MLA. Once here, the MLA will offer drink to protesters sitting on hunger strike.”
Additional Sessions Judge Raj Kumar Tripathi gave the relief to Khan noting that he was not required for investigation and “no purpose would be served by keeping him in jail”. The legislator was asked to furnish a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and a surety of like amount.
“The woman has already got adequate police protection so there is no possibility of tampering with prosecution evidence or influencing evidences… The accused is directed to join investigation as and when called by the investigation officer,” the judge said.
According to police, on July 22, the woman had recorded her statement before a magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC alleging that when she was returning from the MLA’s residence, a vehicle, in which Khan was sitting, tried mowing her down, reported PTI.
She also claimed that a motorcycle tried to run over her when she was on her way to the court to record the statement.
However, Khan has denied all the allegations.
