For Okhlaiites, Metro ride gets very close; crucial decision in Ramzan.
Looking at daily metro trail being run in Okhla, many residents are curious to know: when will their long wait to metro ride come to an end?
Though the exact date is still not out, but according to sources, the work is going on in full speed with staff being employed. A source said the month of Ramzan is going to crucial as officials will visit to see safety measures.
It is awaiting an inspection from the commissioner of Metro railway safety (CMRS). Once that crucial inspection is done, the 3.9-km Metro link between Kalindi Kunj and Botanical Garden is likely to get operational.
Chances are that things are likely to get into order before July-end this year.
“After the CMRS — working under the administrative control of the Union ministry of civil aviation — is satisfied with the safety norms, he will give a nod for the passenger movement on the line,” Anuj Dayal, executive director, corporate communications, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), told TOI.
“After we get the sanction, the date for inauguration will be fixed and the Metro line will be launched,” he said.
“Currently, synchronisation of coaches with signalling and track circuiting are in the final stages, which could conclude any day,” Dayal said.
It was in October last year when the trial had begun.
The stations that fall under the DMRC’s Magenta line included the link from Botanical Garden till Kalkaji Mandir Metro station with nine elevated stations — Botanical Garden, Okhla Bird Sanctuary, Kalindi Kunj, Jasola Vihar Shaheen Bagh, Okhla Vihar, Jamia Millia Islamia, Sukhdev Vihar, Okhla NSIC and Kalkaji Mandir.
