Okhlaiites seek action against Imam Mahdi group for peace in locality. Protesting Jamia Nagar residents have sought immediate action against highly active Imam Mahdi group in Okhla. “At the police station residents put forward a few demands like arrest of the youth involved in the fight and spreading false information in the mosque. Also, residents are deeply upset with their way of functioning in the locality.

They fear that if they continue to get free hand the locality’s peace would be shattered. Police have assured agitating residents to act against the accused,” AAP leader Zia Choudhary told OKHLATIMES.

He was at the police station when residents starting pouring in from Batla House and other parts of Jamia Nagar after words spread of a clash between two groups in the locality during zohar prayer on Sunday. The accused youths were beaten up and taken to hospital for treatment.

Imams of mosques too had turned up to express their displeasure against the functioning of the Imam Mahdi group in the locality. The group has been accused of convincing youth at mosques that Imam Mahdi has arrived and Christ is also coming so it is time to join their group.

“They have been active in the locality from sometime, hurting the sentiments of the residents. Residents reacted peacefully to the event. But there are fears that anger could spill over in future,” said a resident on the condition of anonymity.
