Okhla residents cry for green lungs

Okhla residents cry for green lungs: Okhla has been experiencing an unprecedented dearth of green parks in Batla House and Shaheen Bagh and other adjoining areas, writes HUSAIN HAIDER RIZVI. Parks are metaphorically called “Green Lungs”. But unfortunately these areas boast of no such green places to cater to the physical need of the densely populated Okhla where you die even for a whiff of fresh breeze.

The Okhla has turned into a “dust bowel,” due to unceasing construction work. The residents of the area are subjected to utmost inconvenience and become easy prey to diseases like Tuberculosis and asthma. Pollution level has increased manifold thanks to ever increasing number of vehicles and construction work. Ongoing metro work has worsened the problem.

Of and on freak incidents and accidents take place due to traffic chaos.

In the backdrop of the existing situation, a place still serving the neglected masses of Okhla is Okhla Head canal area. The morning walkers and joggers enjoy walking and jogging here. The landscape beauty of the area appeals to the hearts of both the male and female. Although the authority of the UP irrigation department has spared no efforts to stop the residents from entering the place, yet little opening of the chained and locked gates allows them to enter. With great efforts they make their way through cumbersome gate with slender opening and take morning walk.

Politicians and concerned MLA perhaps do not think of it as a problem, that’s why they don’t take any initiative towards it.
