National Handloom Day celebrated at Jamia

Jamia Cultural Committee celebrated National Handloom Day on August 5 with a lot of pomp and glory. Dignitaries from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and well-known craftsmen and weavers graced the event with their presence, a report by Shadab.

Under the guidance of Dr. Naved Iqbal (Dean of Students’ Welfare), Dr. Sheema Aleem and Dr. Asmat Jahan (Convener and Co-Convener of Bol-The Debating Society respectively), the events of the day were carried out without a glitch and in perfect sync with the essence of National Handloom Day.

Starting off with a folk dance and song, and continuing with a documentary raising awareness on handloom, the day saw a top-notch trilingual competition wherein the motion for the day was, ‘This house believes that it is time for a second swadeshi movement to promote the national handloom industry’.

The debate gave rise to opinionated arguments on both sides of the house, and was followed by a quiz competition. Bol – The Debating Society takes pride in having organised their first debate of the session successfully, and hopes that just like last session, the laurels continue coming in.
