3 Muslims transporting buffaloes attacked in Okhla’s neighbourhood; arrested

As many residents in Okhla were busy getting ready to exercise their franchises when some were seen talking about an incident taking place not far from the locality in Kalkaji area late night on Saturday.

A resident said he read online that three men transporting buffaloes in a truck were allegedly roughed up by members of an animal rights group.

After which reports surfaced that cross-complaints have been registered.

According to police, they received a PCR call last night from an animal activist, claiming that buffaloes were being transported illegally.

The occupants of the truck claimed that they had been roughed up by a group of animal rights activists. A senior journalist also tweeted about the incident with online daily The Wire carrying a report based on that tweet.

Political Editor of The Caravan magazine Hartosh Singh Bal tweeted about the incident around 2 am from the local police station.

“I saw 3 truck drivers transporting buffaloes lying by roadside beaten badly by gau rakshaks near Kalkaji Metro Station,” tweeted Singh at 1:50 AM from the local police station.

The incident, he wrote, occurred at 11:50 pm.

Later on PTI reported that three people, who were allegedly roughed up by members of an animal rights group in Kalkaji, have been arrested for inhumane transportation of animals.

A medical examination of the injured Rizwan, Ashu and Kaamil was carried out and the truck carrying buffaloes were seized by police.

It has been reported that the men were released from AIIMS after getting treatment.
