Mosquito menace torments patients, staff at Al-Shifa

It is not only patients and visitors who are tormented by mosquitoes in the evening during their visit to Al-Shifa hospital in Abul Fazal Enclave, hospital staff don’t know how to keep them safe from the mosquito bite.

After sunset, hordes of mosquitoes are seen on the Al-Shifa campus. A patient said: “Recently, I had gone to see a doctor and once inside the hospital it was mosquitoes everywhere. When pointed out, staff said they too are helpless as the open nallah is the breeding ground from mosquitoes. Though the season for dengue and mosquito related diseases is far away, but patients and visitors were seen protecting them from mosquito bite. A few people, including staff, were seen using mosquito racket.”

It is not that the hospital does not take any step to get rid of mosquito. An employee was seen spraying chemicals. But the problem is that they are back in one hour or so, said another staff. A security guard said nothing can be done as there is open nallah just close to the hospital and it is here that mosquitoes breed. They easily find ways in the hospital and all the efforts like using spray has not worked to keep mosquitoes at bay, said the security guard, on the condition of anonymity.
