Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan gave a call a few minutes ago on Friday, exhorting residents to come at Batla House graveyard on Saturday at 4:30 pm.
He wrote on his timeline that he, along with the Jamia Nagar Police Station SHO and others, will together dismantle encroachment in Batla House. We will talk to shopkeepers and get removed encroachment, he said.
Residents have welcomed the move as many among them are fed up with roadside encroachment leading to traffic snarl and forcing commuters to be stuck in the locality for hours. However, residents pointed out that this is not the first anti-encroachment drive to be taken tomorrow. Some residents still remember how months ago roadside encroachment was dismantled to mushroom after a few days. It would be interesting to see for many that whether this drive is going to be a long lasting one or just a temporary one.
“Encroachment in the locality is a big issue and needs permanent solution. However, it is seen that there is no permanent solution to this menace with roadside eateries, workshop mushrooming and empty space being gobbled up by illegal parking,” said Jawed Iqbal Khan.
A few months ago some local activists had launched a drive by visiting shopkeepers and convincing them to remove encroachment. One such drive had gone wrong leading to a fight in which one activist was hurt. Following which the drive was called off.
