The Delhi Congress is making strategies to make a mark in the upcoming MCD polls to be held on April 22 in Delhi.
If one goes by report then, the party has decided not to field candidates above 60. This only means that the party would be giving maximum tickets to youth between age group of 35 to 45 years. This is good news for young candidates seeking Congress ticket from Okhla and other places in Delhi.
Since the date of the MCD polls have been announced, several people have surfaced showing interest in taking ticket form the Congress. It is reported that the Congress may announce the list of candidates on March 23 or 24, followed by second list on March 25 or 26.
The AAP has already announced its lists on all 272 seats, with major chunk on youth and woman candidates.
On the other hand, the BJP too is yet to announce the list.
Reports pointed out that it is not only Congress that is looking towards youth to make a comeback. The BJP too has decided not to give tickets to sitting councillors to overcome anti-incumbency as the party has been ruling the civic agencies for the last ten years or so.
Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari had said a few days ago: “We want to bring an army of new people, mainly youth, who can take forward the policy of PM Narendra Modi for new India. It is a unanimous decision of the party.
“A lot of our councillors have done good work. But an image has been formed where MCD is being projected as a corrupt body. We want to change that.”
“We are planning to announce the candidates’ list by March 22, as we want to give our candidates adequate time to campaign,” said Tiwari.
