The AAP that had come to power two years ago in Delhi by winning a landslide victory is to test its luck this time around trying to dislodge the BJP that has been power of the three civic agencies for the last many years. The preparations by the AAP have already begun with the party releasing the list of the candidates. In Okhla too, the party has already announced the name of its candidates ahead of BJP, Congress and other political parties.
The AAP had announced that the party received an overwhelming response from the candidates this year with some 10,000 people showing interest. The Congress and other political parties are yet to announce their candidates with the process for selection has already begun, according to sources.
With BJP making a historic victory and AAP’s not so good performance in the recently held Assembly elections in five States, including Punjab, Goa, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, it would be interesting to see how AAP performs in the local elections.
Enthusiastic by its historic results in UP and Uttarakhand, the BJP would fight till the end to retain its power in the civic agencies. Moreover, the Congress too that was routed in the Assembly elections in Delhi will try its best to make its presence felt at least in the civic agency elections.
Political pundits said it would not be cakewalk for the AAP after the JDU announced to contest on all the seats in Delhi targeting the Purvanchal votes.
