Mayawati, Asaduddin and Muslim-Dalit equation in UP: The big debate

Every wise Muslim leader rightly believes that Dalits and Muslims are the natural allies as both these segments of Indian community are facing onslaught of the communal forces, analyses Prof Shamim Ahmad.

As far as the area of social justice is concerned, only Muslims are denied this while Dalits have enough opportunities through 22% reservation in elected bodies – Governance as well as Jobs .

AIMIM chief was very honest in his approach and had been making serious efforts and advocating for Dalit – Muslim alliance for long. Although we were fully aware of the fact that this is not possible under Mayawati leadership but still were hoping that AIMIM chief might have been having some understanding with her as we also knew that Asadduddin Owaisi would not demand large number of seats and may agree to contest on 20 to 25 seats but now the outcome is before everybody ,Mayawati has declared candidates on all 403 Seats thus closing the chapter of alliance.

She very well understand that Dalit and Muslims together forms 42 to 45 per cent of total electorate in UP any party or alliance needs only 30 to 31 per cent of the total votes to form the Government.

So the alliance between Mayawati and Asaddudin Owaisi could ensure her becoming CM.

Mayawati desperately needs Muslims vote but does not want to negotiate with Muslim leadership .The Muslim leadership could certainly demand an assurance that in case of hung assembly she would not form coalition Government with BJP.

Mayawati can never give such undertaking as she like Mulayam Singh is also under BJP pressure having a case of Assets Disproportionate to known source of income.

So she wants to keep her option of coalition open and in all probabilities she will form coalition Government with BJP.

The BJP will agree to make her CM even if she gets lesser number of Seats than BJP.
