Man shot at twice for resisting loot in Jamia Nagar

A few years ago, Jamia Nagar was considered a safe place with crime rates low, said residents, adding that things are not as it used to be. The case in point is a recent incident in Noor Nagar in which a 35-year-old man was shot at twice and robbed of Rs 21 lakh, according to TOI report.

The report claimed that the incident took place around 9: 15pm two days ago when the victim, Shariq Ahmad, was returning to his house in Johari Farm from his workplace at Sarai Julena. It is understood that four armed men on two bikes stopped in and asked him to hand over the cash bag.

“When Ahmad resisted, two of the criminals tried to snatch his bag. When Ahmad shouted for help, one of the bikers shot him thrice in his hand and abdomen. The miscreants then sped away with the bag. CCTV footage of the nearby areas are being scanned to identify the miscreants and trace the bikes. A case of attempt to murder and robbery has been registered,” the officer said as reported by TOI.

Injured Ahmad was rushed to nearby Holy Family hospital where he is under observation. “His colleagues and family members are being questioned,” police said.

This is not one-of incident in the deprived locality that earlier used to be peaceful. It was in Johri Farm where NDMC lawyer MM Khan was killed in the locality when he was returning to his house in the locality. That time too motorbike assailants had attacked him. That case was cracked and several arrests were made.
