Where is Ishrat Begum? Ask some residentsOT, June 20, 2012 19:49 IST Okhla Times Reporter/Okhla When 42-year-old Ishrat Begum had won the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election from women reserved Okhla ward number 206 in April, residents were happy that she would start developmental work. But two months after her victory residents and followers are asking: Where is she? She rarely makes an appearance in the public, claims Ameeque Jameei. Besides, the conditions of the locality too have not improved. Before the election her husband Amiruddin, who has a political ambition, personally took interest in laying pipeline in G block of Abul Fazal Enclave. Since then water logging has been over but the street continues to be in bad shape due to heavy digging work done during that period. Residents had expected that after winning the councilor election, Ishrat would get the road paved. But many among them are peeved as they are unable to trace the new councilor, according to Meher Ali, who not only voted for Ishrat but also convinced others to do so. Just a stone’s throw away in F block the road is in bad shape. Due to perennial water logging residents cannot walk after sunset. The whole stretch in front of the newly built more than Rs 2 crore Charminar Mosque is in tatters. Resident Jawed said: “Water is stinking and it is really difficult to walk on the road after sunset. Nobody has turned up to clean the area. Somebody told me that work may begin in two days time.” Saeed Ahmed, who resides in D 25 AFE, said: “For the last many days no efforts have been made to clean the sewage due to which water logging has become the norm. The situation around Zamzam house is really bad.” Post a comment Top News
