Two people have been injured in a road accident at Thoker number 4, Abul Fazal Enclave in Okhla. A speeding car hit a rickshaw puller at 3 P.M on Friday. A man riding a cycle was also hurt. After the accident some residents gathered at the site and beat up the driver. They even damaged the car. Both the people sustained minor injuries, according to the police. An eyewitness to the accident said Jamia Nagar police found wine bottles in the car number UP 16R/6137 Accent. A girl was also on the car, said a local. Ashraf Bastavi, who was also an eyewitness to the accident, said some 12 people were hurt. However, the local police rubbished the claim.
Sub Inspector Ramesh Chandra told OKHLA TIMES that only two people were hurt. “I don’t know how the locals are saying that 12 people were hurt. We reached there on time. It was a minor accident and things were sorted out. We were upset with the beating incident. It only gives a bad name to the locality,” he said.
According to the police official, the car was being driven by Vivek, a management student. “An FIR has been filed against the boy who studies in a B-school Noida. Later on he was released. Nothing was found from the car,” Chandra said. But the residents continue with their story that some 12 people were hurt and that the driver was drunk. Many residents said the road has become unsafe as many people drive fast.
