Some residents march in Jamia Nagar against 'illegal' arrestingOT, February 26, 2012 21:48 IST Okhla Times Reporter/ Okhla Head Some residents on February 26 demonstrated in Jamia Nagar against illegal arresting, kidnapping and harassing of local residents by the police, according to Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR). While addressing the protest-march, APCR's Delhi secretary, Syed Akhlaq said: “Police is for people’s safety not for terrorizing them and it is their prime duty to respect civil rights while arresting or nabbing any person and Supreme Court should take action if its given guidelines are not being followed by any law enforcement agency. People should aware and come out to protect their civil rights.” The march was a part of APCR’s week-long civil rights awareness campaign Adv. Feroz Gazi vice president of APCR, Delhi chapter said: “No one is allowed to take law into his hand either police or common people and every person has right to protect himself from illegal detention.” Engineer Saleem, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Public Relation secretary, said: “APCR has taken right step on right time to aware people about their civil rights.” A few residents including advocates, social activists and students marched through Okhla Police Station, Jamia Millia Islamia University, Zakir Nagar to Batla House, claimed a release issued by APCR.
