Twelve-hour power cut on July 27 in some colonies of Okhla just a day after the Delhi government and power regulator announced power tariff hike (about 26 per cent) has come as a shock to residents. Many consumers complained on the forum about long-hour power outages in the locality but all in vain.

Batla House resident Ghazia Khanam said the situation is getting from bad to worst. “The hike was unwanted. But residents expected that the power situation will improve. However, nothing like this has happened. Power is being cut in phase wise. With no power access to water also becomes difficult.”

The worst hit was Abul Fazal Enclave.

A resident Md Yusuf said the power went on at about 9 PM and the whole night there was no electricity. “The area was plunged into darkness. I don’t know whether the government is serious about tackling the issue of power cut or just they are fooling around by increasing the power tariff.  The power came around 9 AM in the morning today. Just see for 12 hours residents were left with no electricity.”

Those who had inverter and small family didn’t face the ordeal.

This summer has been horrid for residents across the city with long hour power outages becoming the norm and government unable to address the issue.
