Some Okhla residents have welcomed the Delhi Government’s move for making it compulsory on schools to implement the EWS admission process. Till now many seats in schools used to go vacant. “It is a good news. This will help poor students get admissions in quality schools,” said Okhla resident Shabana. MCD schools have been instructed to implement the guidelines on EWS students’ admission. Primary public schools which have been functioning after getting due recognition from the civic body have also been told to fill seats for EWS students.

Besides, the MCD has also been asked to furnish a list of violating schools so that action could be taken against them. Briefing reporters, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit stated that the MCD has been told to implement the EWS admission process in true spirit as it is mandatory with enforcement of RTE Act. “The government is committed to ensure benefit to the students coming from Economic Weaker Sections. EWS quota is also applicable to minority schools,” she said.

The important decision was taken in a review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in Delhi Secretariat.  Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh, Principal Secretary (Education) Rakesh Mohan, Principal Secretary (Law) S.P. Garg, MCD Commissioner K.S. Mehra, Director of Education P. Krishnamurthy and Director of Education (MCD) were also participated in the meeting.
