About 150 families hit by flood – living in temporary houses at Dhobi Ghat near Batla House – got some relief when a local NGO distributed some 41 plastic sheets to them. After their houses were damaged following overflowing of River Yamuna, the authorities shifted them to safety as water entered their homes. Since they have been living on sustenance with help coming from the locals and NGOs, including the Society for Bright Future (SBF).

Auqil Ahmed, regional coordinator of SBF visited the flood-hit Dhobi Ghat to assess the situation. Also, he distributed plastic sheets so that flood victims could cover their temporary tents. The victims welcomed the move. “We are getting help from other locals also. But we were in urgent need of plastic sheets. We are thankful to SBF for providing this to us,” said a Rukshana Bano.

Many locals said plastic sheets will solve their problem as earlier they were having problems cooking food. A student of Jamia Millia Islamia was also assisting the SBF in distributing relief materials. The SBF is a sister organization of Human Welfare Foundation and works for disaster and rehabilitation work.
