Raees hope dashedOT, February 5, 2012 17:34 IST Noushu Ali/AFE Raees Khan has been working in Abul Fazal Enclave (AFE) for many years in the hope to contest the 2012 Municipal elections. When the date of the MCD election was announced, he was delighted that his chance had come to test the waters. However, his hope was dashed when many constituencies in Delhi, including AFE, were reserved for women. Other aspiring leaders too are faced with such a situation. Now they don’t know what to do. Many may move to other constituencies. But now it is too late as they will have nothing to show to the voters, according to social activist Jawed Iqbal Khan. He said it is a Catch 22 situation for many small-time leaders and chances are high that in reserved constituencies they may introduce their wives, daughters and relatives as candidates. Posters have surfaced in the locality of one Juhi Khan. People who keep eye on local political development said she might contest in the councilor elections. Also, reports are emanating that the incumbent Congress councilor Engineer Jamaluddin may introduce his wife from this reserved AFE seat (ward 205). Local leader Md Ayub informed OKHLA TIMES that Wasim Ahmed Ghazi may contest election from ward 205 against sitting Congress councilor Shoeb Danish. Earlier, Ghazi had contested in Assembly elections from Okhla twice and lost to his rivals. Post a comment Top News
