More than a week after OT carried a report on the death of two people of dengue in Batla House that the MCD got down to work.

Staff from the department unleashed cleanliness drive in the locality (Two die of dengue in Batla House, Oct 17).

OT reader and Batla House H block resident Ghufran Rumi posted an SMS: “After OKHLATIMES news, MCD working overtime to clean H block.” He thanked OT for covering the important issue on social networking site Facebook.

Also, he posted a few photos in which MCD employees were shown removing garbage from the area.

For long the area was neglected by officials.

And residents too were blamed for their callous attitude. The H block was littered with garbage.

Also, water logging had turned out to be a perennial problem for many residents, Rumi.

He said after the cleanliness drive the street is looking tidy.

“But I don’t know how long it will last. Now it is the responsibility of residents not to dump waste on roadsides and outside their houses.

"Authorities should also make it a routine rather one time affair,” he said.

The conditions of other blocks too are bad and it is a long way for MCD employees to look after them with limited staff strength.

Residents have welcomed MCD cleanliness drive and expect the government to look after the whole area that lacks in basic civic amenities.
