The Delhi High Court reprimanded DDA officials and police for their failure to stop Okhla MLA Asif Md Khan from encroaching on DDA land proposed for graveyard. Hearing a PIL filed by advocate Kamran Mallick on account of a Zakir Nagar resident, the court on May 2 asked the Lokyukta to inquire into the whole matter.

MLA Khan has been accused of illegally occupying the DDA land just outside his swanky office in Abul Fazal Enclave, near Kalindi Kunj. Some 5,000 bigha is left vacant there, according to lawyer Mallick, a Jamia Milllia Islamia alumnus.

Big blow
He told OKHLA TIMES that he had filed the PIL two months ago. “It is a welcome decision. The land proposed for graveyard has been encroached and should be vacated. Chances are high that if found guilty MLA may even be debarred from fighting Assembly election in 2013.”

Asif could not be reached for comment as he didn’t return the call made to him by the portal.

Sukhdev Vihar resident Asha Arora welcomed the move. She said: “Now it is the duty of the police to get the land vacated. Let us see whether the land will be freed from the clutched of the MLA, a powerful politician.”

Abul Fazal Enclave Tarique Siddique said: “The court’s decision is right. Now the time has come for the MLA to act or be ready to be penalized.”

News blacked out by Urdu media
Interestingly, the anti-Asif news was completely blacked out by Urdu newspapers for reasons best known to them.

Besides, the court also asked the Wild Life department to visit MLA’s campus in AFE and find out whether he is not violating the law while domesticating animals.

Of late the MLA and his close aides have been seen busy taking care of animals, including Australian birds, Japanese hens, dogs, horses and buffaloes.
