A local cop was praised for forcing a taxi driver at Okhla Head to go by the book. At 9 AM when many locals in the area rush to their offices, taxi drivers parked at the Okhla Head charge exorbitant amount from them. During festive seasons their demands go up. Most of the time, greedy taxi drivers refuse to go by the meter. There has been a case when a taxi driver charged Rs 50 for a ride to the Holy Family Hospital, just a kilometer from Batla House. On Thursday (September 2) when a taxi driver at Okhla Head refused to go by the meter to Pragati Maidan Metro Station, the passenger got upset.

He took help from a local cop who was in the area at that time. After seeing the cop, the driver started to run, but before he could start his auto the cop caught hold of him. He blasted him for breaking the law and asked him to go by the rule. Initially the driver argued with the cop. The driver only agreed to go by the meter when the cop threatened him with action.

The passenger thanked the cop and said: “We need more cops like him in the area. And taxi drivers in the area should be penalized for not going by meter.”

After the fare was hiked, auto drivers in Delhi have been instructed by the government to go by the meter. But still many auto drivers in Okhla Head, Batla House and Julaena don’t follow the rule. They continue to harass the passengers by asking exorbitant amount.
