Kendriya Bhandars to come up in govt colonies, unauthorized Okhla ignored

MAY 8, 2011: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on May 7 interacted with hundreds of office bearers of a number of RWAs from New Delhi area, excluding unauthorized Okhla. The RWAs from colonies in South of Rajpath were invited in a meeting organized at Delhi Secretariat to ascertain the problems being faced by the residents of colonies and accelerate the pace of on-going developmental works. The meeting was attended by the NDMC Chairperson Shri Parimal Rai, Secretary (NDMC), other senior officers of NDMC, CPWD, Delhi Police and other concerned departments were also present in the meeting.
Dikshit stated that she has decided to interact with the RWAs, Traders’ Associations in New Delhi localities in a phased manner. Today’s meeting was first in this direction. The officer bearers of RWAs placed their suggestions and appreciated the work being done by the various agencies. It was decided to open more Kendriya Bhandars in government colonies.
The Chief Minister stated that she has discussed this issue with the Minister of Food & Supplies and MD, Kendriya Bhandar. It has been decided to complete formalities at the earliest to ensure commissioning of Kendriya Bhandars, which would go a long way in making available essential commodities at the doorsteps of the residents.
The RWAs demanded construction/strengthening of boundary walls of the colonies and installation of security gates. Dikshit instructed the officials to take up these works on priority. She also instructed the NDMC to ensure proper cleaning and sanitation on day-to-day basis. Further the issue of parking was discussed. The office bearers also demanded commissioning of a big size common RO system to cater to the needs entire colony, hence, every individual resident will not have to go for a separate RO system within his residence.
The RWAs of Kidwai Nagar, Laxmibai Nagar, Kaka Nagar, Bapa Nagar, Bharti Nagar, Pandara Road, Jor Bagh, Sarojini Nagar, B.K. Dutt Colony, Lodhi Road and Naurauji Nagar were present in the meeting.
On the same day ten eldermen, recently nominated as members in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, called Sonia Gandhi to convey their gratitude for being nominated. They were accompanied by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Lok Sabha Member J.P. Aggarwal.
Newly nominated Eldermen stated that they will serve the people and contribute in the better functioning of the MCD.
