MAY 13, 2011: More than 150 Jasola Vihar locals, including 89 women, took out a peaceful candle light on May 12 for about 1.30 hours. The rally that started in the colony at about 6.30 P.M ended at 8 P.M. For the first time since the protest started in Okhla some residents of this colony came out in protest against the fast coming up toxic plant. A resident, who was party of the rally, said: "We will fight till the last moment. We won't let the government function the plant in this thickly populated area."
Posh Sukhdev Vihar is a few meter from the plant. Beside, Central university Jamia Millia Islamai (JMI) and two major hospitals: Holy Family and Escorts are located nearby. The residents have been protesting against the plant for a long time.
Social activist Asha Arora said: "It is good to see that so many residents have turned up to protest."
All RWAs are meeting at New Friends’ Colony today at about 7 P.M. to chalk out further strategy.
Since the deal came into being by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the residents have been protesting by organizing rallies and hunger strike. They claim that the plant that will incinerate waste to produce electricity is hazardous. But the Delhi government has brushed aside residents concern by claiming that the plant is safe and will not release toxic injurious to health as being claimed by the residents.
