Gramin conductor wows a Jamia professorOT, December 12, 2011 13:22 IST Okhla Times Reporter/Okhla
An honest Gramin (small Tata vehicle used for carrying passengers in the locality) conductor impresses a Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) professor by returning the latter’s lost mobile phone. Had the phone with unlimited MTNL credits not been returned, the professor would have lost most of his important contacts and a few bucks also. Narrating the whole incident, the professor says: “It was while travelling from Community Centre to my house in Okhla Head last week that I lost my phone. I didn’t realize it until I came home and received a call from my colleague on my landline.” “After that I searched for my phone and got worried as the phone was not with me. I lost all hope and after a taxing day I just hit the bed. It was then that I got a call from the conductor on my landline who certainly must have taken my number from the teacher. I took a deep breath that my mobile was in safe hands. Anybody could have used it, but this conductor was so honest that he informed me and I was really impressed. Everything was accidental. Had my colleague not called on time I would have not recalled where I had dropped my mobile phone and at the same time the conductor too would have not got my landline number.” As it was night, the exhausted professor told the upright conductor that he would collect the phone next day in the morning. Later on the conductor deposited the phone to his owner Vimal in Badarpur. Vimal also called the Professor, promising him that his phone would be delivered next day. A time was set and the Professor went on to collect the phone from a conductor of bus route no 507 whose owner is Vimal. After receiving the phone, the professor who didn’t want his name published dashed an emotional SMS to Vimal and the conductor. He wrote: “God is great and God bless you health and wealth.” Also, the Professor has promised the conductor and owner a treat.
