Blankets out as cold winds sweep Okhla, Delhi

As the temperature soared, Batla House-resident Najma Khanam packed her woolens, waiting for the summer. She was not alone to do so in Delhi and Okhla. As a routine many families do so at the end of winter season. But they were surprised when cold winds swept Delhi a few days ago bringing the temperature down by eight degree. Since then they have been wrestling with the idea to take out their woolens.

Najma said: “The drastic change in weather has forced me to take out the blanket. It is in the morning and late night when we feel for the blanket. The weather has been fickle and we have to be careful as chances of getting cold are high.”

It is mostly in the early morning and late night when the weather hits the low. The sunny afternoon keeps residents guessing about the weather next day.

Weathermen have predicted that weather will continue to be like this for more days.  As Delhi’s weather depends on other places, a strong wind in Jammu and Kashmir too has left its impact on the city.

RK Jenamani, director in-charge, IGI Met, said the month of March has seen temperature fluctuate quite a bit due to four western disturbances.

With 20-30 kilometer mile per hour wind blowing over the Indo Gangetic plains for one more day weather may dip, claimed an official.

Doctors too suggest precaution.
