9-yr-old Amina wins Aviva writing award, Rs 25,000OT, January 27, 2012 09:42 IST Okhla Times Reporter/AFE Abul Fazal Enclave resident Amina, 9, won Aviva Life Insurance creative writing award. She and four others were selected to fly with their parents to UK and visit the internationally famed Oxford University. As part of the gratification, they were promised to have a meeting with master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar. However, Amina, who studies at Cambridge School Sri NiwasPuri in class four, received a gift of Rs 25,000 by the Aviva Life Insurance. Amina’s father Md Naseeb Khan, who is principal Jamia Senior Secondary School, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), said: “I received a call from Mumbai from the organizers informing me about Amina’s stellar performance in the writing competition. Also, they took all our details. But I don’t know what happened as later they send us the cheque of Rs 25,000.” He said it is a proud moment for me and my family. “My daughter wants to become a doctor so that she can serve people. She reads a lot and is able to churn out good sentences,” said Khan, who himself is an accomplished English writer. His latest book on verse was received well in the literary circle of Delhi and India. The Aviva Young Scholar Hunt was launched in June 2011 in association with POGO TV and it over a period of time it received thousands of entries from children in the age group of 8 to 14 years in the initial few weeks itself. The on-ground activation programme for the contest, launched in 120 schools across Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai, also generated a good response. Gaurav Rajput, director marketing, Aviva India, said: “At Aviva, we believe that “Education is Insurance” for a better future and therefore launch initiatives that are focused on helping children realize their dreams, whether through insurance products, Aviva Street to School initiative or scholarships for bright young minds. Launch of Aviva Young Scholar Hunt was a step in the same direction, and I am pleased that it received a phenomenal response from children as well as parents. I wish all the winners and participants good luck for their future aspirations”. The five winners in the age group of 8 to 13 years were selected from amongst 90,000 entries from across the country, by an eminent jury from the field of media and advertising. In addition to this grand prize, 20 other winners have been awarded Aviva Scholarships while another 4,000 children received Sachin branded merchandise.
