Reports have surfaced that the local Jamia Nagar police station has received order for providing extra forces to the authorities for demolishing more than 125 illegal buildings across the locality. The demolition operation has been warded off with the police station raising its hands up, expressing its inability not to manage a huge force.

Though unable to implement the order temporarily, the police have stopped vehicles bringing construction material in the locality. The police have been posted at many entrances of the colony to make sure that nobody is allowed to transport construction materials, according to a local resident Rizvi Choudhary.

Builders panic
The news of construction works coming to a halt spread in the locality with many builders getting panicked. To get their projects cleared they need the blockade to be lifted. And keeping all this in mind a meeting was called on Sunday at the local police station to resolve the issue.

SHO Satvir Singh Dagar also participated in the one hour meet, claimed a report. It is understood that builders will try to get a stay order against the demolition.

Their fate will be decided on June 4 and till then the blockade will remain.

The development only means tough time ahead for builders, who for a few years had a field day since construction restrictions were removed from the locality.

Prices to go up
Md Salim said: “This is something that builders are aware of. Builders will be forced to pay more to the authorities to get the material transported. This will only lead to flat prices going up.”

If things are not sorted out soon, old days are back when builders used to construct flats illegally by paying more to the authorities. Things had only changed when the local politicians had their way by getting the ban order lifted. (The Congress claims it got the ban order reversed whereas local MLA Asif Md Khan takes the credit). This led to construction of many flats in the locality with prices even coming down.

Clean the mess
All told, some residents have welcomed the demolition of illegal structures as they strongly feel that the explosion of construction of flats did no good to the locality. They also want action against encroachment that of late has mushroomed in the locality.

This is shear injustice. Building a house is a right of any citizen. And demolition is one of most barbaric act. If it is illegal then it should not be allowed to be built but once it has been built, it should not be demolished. Jamia Nagar will be good only if encroachment on the roads is removed and few multi-level parking are build.
