It is 12:30 pm on Tuesday and Okhla resident Kaleem is seen at alteration shop in Abul Fazal Enclave carrying two jeans. When asked whether he also wears jeans, Kaleem, who is usually seen wearing kurta and pajama in the locality most of the time, said usually he doesn’t but he is just getting his two jeans ready to wear to office.
“I have worked mostly in Muslim offices and they instruct me to come to office in shirt and pant. Some employers told me that it gives a bad impression. But I think it is preposterous. But as things are changing and I have to earn my livelihood I bought two jeans and went to the shop to get the length of the pants reduced,” said bearded Kaleem, who gave only one name.
Kaleem said he has only worked in Muslim offices in Delhi.
Moreover, he lamented that these days some Muslims don’t understand or care for dress code of others.
“There is nothing wrong in going to office wearing clean kurta pajama. Just see in some religious organizations too people have discarded kurta pajama,” said Kaleem, who is associated with Tablighi Jamaat that has its headquarters in Nizamuddin.
There are many like Kaleem, who love to wear kurta pajama but due to official pressure they wear trousers during official hours.
