Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal paid floral tributes to the slain Officers, late MM Khan of the NDMC and Deputy Supdt Police, INA, late Tanzil Ahmed today at Delhi secretariat.
The Chief Minister also distributed cheques of rupees one crore each to the families of both these officers, as per the policy of the Delhi Government. Both these officers were killed recently. Khan was murdered by unidentified bike borne youths a few metres from his Johri Farm house in May. Police succeeded in cracking the case in 24 hours by arresting the accused.
Also the murder had grabbed headlines with several political figures, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, turning up at Okhla to meet the family of slain officer. During his short stay in Johri Farm, Kejriwal then had announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore.
Moreover, the incident sparked war of words between AAP and the BJP. The AAP accused the East Delhi BJP MP Maheish Girri to be involved in the case, an allegation that the MP rubbished. To make a point, the MP even sat on indefinite strike outside the house of Kejriwal demanding a debate over the issue.
The murder case of Tanzil Ahmed, a resident of Okha for the last more than decade, made into headlines. He too was killed while he was returning after attending a marriage ceremony in his hometown UP.
His wife who sustained injuries in the attack also died after some days of treatment at AIIMS. Kejriwal had visited Batla House graveyard where Ahmed was buried with state honour. Then also the CM had announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore to his family.
Ahmed’s killers too have been arrested recently.
However, the delay in payment of compensation cheques had sparked debate in the social media mostly among former disgruntled AAP members.
