Despite blistering heat, former Water minister of Delhi Government Kapil Mishra kept his word to visit Okhla to meet Zakir Nagar’s Amma on Thursday.
It is another story that he was detained and stopped from entering Zakir Nagar at Taimoor Nagar, according to Pervez Alam Khan, who for the last few days has launched save Amma campaign with ex-Congress MLA Asif Md Khan.
“He was detained at C.R. Park police station and was later released,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya said. Asif Md Khan, Pervez and others who were with Kapil Mishra were not detained and later on they came to Okhal. Pervez said Amma is unwell.
After his release Mishra told media persons: “Why did they stop me from going there? I’ll do whatever I can to help the old woman.” Mishra said he was on his way to meet an old woman in Batla House, where goons had fired several shots a couple of days back, reported PTI.
It was actually on Wednesday when words had spread in the locality that Kapil Mishra would join a protest called in solidarity with Amma in Batla House chowk. Following which AAP leaders, including Mahmood Ahmad, said they would not allow the suspended AAP leader to enter Batla House. They claimed that he was coming to spoil the peaceful environment of the locality.
There was tension in the locality and many residents heaved a sigh of relief when at the last minute the protest was postponed with Pervez claiming that it will be held after two days.
The Amma story has been at the centre of attraction with some residents claiming that a family matter has been politicized. However, a user by name Pathan wrote this on the social media: “In family dispute some outsiders openly fire gunshots? The culprit, who fired gunshots, should be punished and senior citizen rights should be saved. It is society’s responsibility. In future it may happen with you or with anyone.”
However, the opposition has claimed that the issue has been politicized as those involved in the save Amma campaign too are eyeing the property a claim that has been rubbished by Pervez.
“We are not hiding anything. I invite independent journalists, social activists and respectable people of the locality to come and meet Amma and know the truth. My only effort is to get justice for the elderly woman.”
All told, both the sides have parked videos and photos to buttress their stands.
