Fire broke out in Kanchan Kunj late night on Thursday, according to residents. Till the filing of the report no causalities were reported. The actual reason for fire is yet to be ascertained.
A resident who visited the locality this morning said fire had broken in the godown with many items getting destroyed. It is understood that a few godowns were gutted by fire.
Delhi has witnessed increase in inferno. A few days ago inferno at Ghazipur and Bhalswa landfill sites and in Yamuna flood plains behind Rajghat Power Station grabbed headlines in Delhi.
The Delhi government had claimed to be a sabotage to discredit odd-even scheme being implemented from April 1 to April 15 to improve air quality of the city. Earlier, Transport Minister Gopal Rai told reporters: “We don’t have evidence to prove our claim but question is automatically raised when fire is reported at three points at the same time at the forested area behind Shanti Van. The entire incident indicates something is wrong.”
However, a report pointed out that the fire was the result of methane and human error. A committee headed by DPCC Member Secretary and Special Secretary (Environment) Kulanand Joshi said: “Cause of fire which was observed on April 23, due to generation of methane from decomposition of garbage and unknown human error which might have taken place in the absence of Fire Prevention Plan.”
Most probably in the Kanchan Kunj case the fire could be the result of short circuit.
