Understanding Pakistan and Muslim world made easyOT, March 14, 2012 20:03 IST Okhla Times Campus Reporter/JMI The Pakistan Studies Programme at the Academy of International Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is hosting an international seminar on Pakistan and the Muslim World on the March 15 and 16, 2012 at the Indo-Arab Cultural Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia. The objectives of the seminar are to evaluate and understand Pakistan’s relationship with the Muslim world in the past and what are the future prospects in the light of the rapidly evolving international and regional order? Given the ferment in the Muslim world it would be important to understand how Pakistan and the Muslim world are tackling some of the pressing challenges confronting them and critically examine the likely fallouts and spill-over effects of these developments on the region and India, according to the media coordinator. The purpose of the seminar is to bring together eminent academicians, analysts, journalists and policy-makers from India, Pakistan and abroad to debate this subject, claimed media coordinator. The two-day seminar is divided into six working sessions in which more than 15 papers will be presented by researchers from different disciplines on the relevant topics. The broad topics on which the papers would be presented are as follows: Session-I Muslim World and the Changing World Order chaired by Ambassador Ishrat Aziz, former Diplomat; Session-II Pakistan’s Islamic Identity chaired by Ambassador T.C.A. Rangachari, director of Academy of International Studies, JMI. Five scholars from Pakistan are expected to participate in the seminar. They are: Prof. Rasul Baksh Rais, Lahore University of Management Sciences, Lahore; Prof. Abdul Hameed Nayar, Lahore University of Management Sciences, Lahore; Prof. Umbreen Javaid, Punjab University, Lahore; Dr. Nukhbah Taj Langah, Forman Christian College University, Lahore and Dr. Yaqoob Khan Bangash, Forman Christian College, Lahore. Najeeb Jung, Vice-Chancellor, JMI, will deliver the inaugural address at about 10.30 AM on March 15, 2012. The valedictory session of the seminar will be held on 16th March at 4.30 pm and will be delivered by Prof. Asghar Ali Engineer, Chairman, Centre for Study of Society and Secularism, Mumbai on the theme Islamic Pakistan and Secular India.
