Two Jamia students win writing competition & a study tour to UKOT, November 29, 2011 23:21 IST Okhla Times Campus Reporter/JMI Two students (one female and one male) have won the essay writing competition organized by Jamia Cultural Committee in collaboration with the British High Commission on November 21, 2011. But the names of the winners will only be announced in a function to be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 11 AM in the Edward Said Hall, near Vice-Chancellor's Office, JMI, claims University official. The prize for the winners will be a one-week study tour to the United Kingdom sponsored fully by the British High Commission. The occasion will be braced by Najeeb Jung, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia and Julian Evans, Deputy High Commissioner of UK to India. Also, Professor T.K. Oommen will speak on the theme "What are the ties that bind in a multicultural society?" The theme of the essay "What are the ties that bind in a multicultural society?" was a huge hit with fifty five students participating in the essay writing competition. They subsequently made an oral presentation in English, of five minutes each, based on their written work. The competition was open for both undergraduate and postgraduate students of JMI, claims the release, adding: "Participants were expected to write a 1500-2000 word essay in English on the spot."
