APRIL 29, 2011: Two girl students of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Uzma Yousuf and Naheed Tabassum were awarded the The Mukul Kasliwal Scholarship that was instituted by JMI Vice Chancellor Najeeb Jung. Mukul Kasilwal, Chairman of MW Corp. had made an initial donation of Rs.5 lakhs. These two post graduate students were awarded the fellowship for the academic year 2010-11 on the basis of their academic performance, their individual essay and their participation in extra/co-curricular activities, claimed the media coordinator.

Uzma, a student of Master of International Business – 1st Semester, is the topper of the Bachelor of Social work course at Jamia and had secured the highest marks in the last five years in the university, whereas Naheed, studying M.Sc. Bio-Technology – 1st Semester, secured a high percentage of 80.3 per cent in her graduation and has participated in a number of academic symposia and workshops.

The university had received a number of applications for the scholarship, which were screened by a committee after which they made the final selection. Under this scholarship, both the candidates were awarded Rs.25,000 per annum.

While instituting the scholarship, in a letter that Kasliwal wrote to Vice Chancellor Jung, he said: “I am very keen that students, who are deserving, but less privileged, have every opportunity to avail of the best of education so that their talents are harnessed and their dreams fulfilled. I also hope and believe that this is just the beginning of this scholarship programme for such a deserving institute.”

Mukul Kasliwal had nominated Jung as the sole trustee of the scholarship. Jung said: “I believe that this scholarship will go a long way in changing the careers of many talented students who may not have had access to many opportunities owing to different circumstances and reasons.”

The university congratulates the two students for their achievement, according to University media coordinator.
