The 92nd Foundation Day celebrations came to an end on October 30 with a performance by a visiting group of Whirling Dervishes from Turkey called “Konya Turkish Tasawwuf Music Ensemble.”

They performed at 6.30 PM in Safdar Hashmi Ampitheatre, JMI, in front of a packed audience, according to university media coordinator.

The programme was facilitated by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and Turkish Culture & Tourism Office and the Republic of Turkey Embassy, New Delhi.

Started on October 29, the Foundation Day attracted visitors and participants from all over the world.

However, the celebrations were criticized because of the scrapping of historic Talimi Mela.

Many JMI alumni were deeply upset that there was no Talimi Mela. Some even termed the Foundation Day celebrations incomplete without this iconic event.

University insiders said on the condition of anonymity that as regular classes were going on many students could not participate in it and thus it lacked the earlier spirit.
